Asphalt And Concrete Pavement Repairs

When pavement has failed, and maintenance is no longer sufficient, we offer asphalt and concrete repairs.  There can be many causes for pavement failures.  The predominant causes are poor initial construction and lack of maintenance.  There may be underlying causes that need to be identified such as a weakened subgrade or drainage problems.  We will identify any underlying causes and incorporate a remedy to correct them in our repair plan.

Asphalt pothole repair is one of the most common types of repair needed.  The preferred method involves removing all unsound pavement by either sawcutting and excavating, or by milling.  The depth of the patch is usually determined by the severity of the deterioration.  If the base layer of asphalt is still sound a two inch surface patch will suffice.  If the base layer of asphalt is deteriorated then it needs to be removed, and the subgrade re-established and compacted.  At this point a new base course of either asphalt or concrete can be installed, followed by a new surface course.

Concrete failures are caused primarily by subgrade issues, inferior initial construction, and the use of inferior concrete mixes.  Repairs generally require sawcutting and removing all deteriorated concrete, establishing and compacting subgrade, and re-pouring a quality concrete mix with the appropriate thickness and reinforcement needed for the expected traffic loads.
